Dental Fillings & Chipped Teeth

At Premier Dental, we never use silver (amalgam) fillings. These fillings, which have long been used in dentistry, work by mechanical retention. This means that more of your tooth needs to be drilled away to restore your cavity. Silver fillings also may weaken the teeth due to their expansion and contraction with temperature leading to microfractures in teeth. The classic example of this presents as a broken tooth where the large silver filling is still in place and the tooth cusps have broken off around it requiring the need for a cap (crown).

Tooth colored composite fillings remove less natural tooth, bond seamlessly into place, are kinder to the remaining tooth structure, and are aesthetically pleasing.

Cosmetic Bonding is used to repair chipped or broken teeth. It can also be used to widen, lengthen, or reshape teeth that are unaesthetic. Many patients will opt to whiten their teeth first and match the bonding to the whiter shade. Whether you choose to whiten or not, we use a layering technique to give your bonding a natural, blended appearance. Numbing with anesthetic is typically not needed for cosmetic bonding procedures.
